20 Years of Glasshouse Trails - The Glasshouse 100

Training - Eastern Section at Night

There will be a training opportunity (assuming there's enough interest but I'll be doing it anyway) out on the Eastern section at around 6:00 pm, Sunday 30th. This will take in pretty much the entire Eastern course from the car park at the Mobil service station or from the car park at Wild horse Mountain.

If we go from the Mobil station it means a short run (about 1.1 km's) down the trail to the Tibrogargan Creek crossing.

It will be around 30km. The 'missing' 20 or so km is made up by the 10.7 km from Beerburrum to Wild Horse and the return. If there is interest, we could include one or both trips.

Further details through next week.

I know this is the same day as the Bridge to Brisbane (I'll be running that myself in the morning) but this is a valuable opportunity for those who haven't seen this part of the course to be able to travel it after dark as you will on race day.

Other than sound directions, this will be unsupported so if you do choose to undertake it be sure you are prepared. I will, however, be stashing some water at CP10.

20 Years of Glasshouse Trails - The Glasshouse 100

Less than four weeks to go until September 12th/13th which sees the 20th year of Glasshouse Trails come to a close with the Glasshouse 100.

On-line entries are available along with postal entries both accessible from the 'ENTER' page.

Flinders Tour

A large field included some usual suspects but also a lot of first timers at ultra distance.

On a good running day with a cool breeze that helped keep the heat down, there were some solid performances on the day but the stand out had to be thirteen year old Keny Arcangeli who came 2nd in the 10km inside 45 minutes.  It was taken out by David Topp and Sarah Glover in the male and female categories respectively.

Julian Spence took out the 24km by eighteen minutes from Adrian Pearce in a sharp 1:35 with Kristy Shaw taking the women’s race in 2:05 from Mandy-Lee Scott by less than a minute.

The 50km had 38 finishers on a day when there seemed to be considerable misfortune with a number of DNF’s and non starters.  Jeff Rudd won in 4:45 just ahead of Peggy MacQueen who took the women’s race and 2nd outright from.

We look forward now to the Glasshouse 100 in September which will bring the curtain down on the Glasshouse Trails Series for this year. Entry forms are downloadable from the 'ENTER' page and on-line entries will be available soon.

The Glasshouse 50 - Cook's Tour

Sunday May 17th saw Glasshouse Trails 20th year kick off with a highly successful event which generated a total of 274 finishers across all four events.

This, as was the total number of entrants (over 50 in the 50km and 100+ in 30km and 11km events), was a record for Glasshouse Trails.

All events, again, produced some quality perfomances most notably that of Deb Nicholl in the 50 miler. In the abscense of last year's winners David Waugh and Lisa Spink, there was going to be some competition at the pointy end but Deb, a New Zealander now resident in Brisbane, in her first foray beyond 60km took the win outright and with it, obviously, first female in 7:27:05, with first place male, Rolf Collett almost seventeen minutes behind in a very respectable 7:43:51

Strong performances in the 50km produced winners Michael Page (with an outstanding 4:33:41) and Tamyka Bell (5:44:53). In the 30km, we saw Daniel Wright bring it in with a sharp 2:05:16 with first female, Alexandra Ralph winning in and equally smart 2:23:26.

The 11km brought it's usual group of sprinters and saw Clint Bignold and Louise Menhinick take out the race in 41:12 and 46:18 respectively in competitive races.

Support as usual was outstanding and we saw the usual suspecs front up in the wee hours and nurse our runners, particularly in the longer events, through the early stages of each race.

By the way, did you know that if you or a member of your family (or even a friend) volunteer to help at an aid station or checkpoint at this event or any future event, you get a substantial discount off entry into a TRAQ event or the your choice?  Contact Ian Javes (ijaves@caloundra.net) for further information

It looks like being a great winter of racing at Glasshouse with this meet setting the tone.

Look forward to seeing you all at the next event

Safe training

20 Years of Glasshouse Trails

2009 is the 20th year of Glasshouse Trails events. To commemorate this milestone we plan to recognize some of the achievements by competitors over the years such as number of events completed (10, 20, etc.), successive number of events and km's travelled.

Kerrie Hall now leads all categories and has 30 runs, 25 ultras and has amassed 2146km.

Through 2009, race numbers will be color coded in three categories to denote 10+, 20+ and 30+ finishes (green, red and blue) with same colour Glasshouse Trails caps to those that reach or have reached these milestones.

Those that accumulate or have accumulated 1000+, 2000+ or 3000+ km (in completed events) will receive a t-shirt under the same colour scheme.

The leader in each of these categories will receive a yellow jersey. So that would be ... err ... Kerrie!

As further milestones are reached, then more colours will be added to the range

Current standings (more than 7 events, more than 700km in accumulated distance and those with more than 7 ultras completed) can be viewed from the following links:
